Badgley Mischka

Badgley Mischka
A Handfull of Stars

The Collection

Twinkling embellishments and stardust beading were a big part of the Badgley Mischka story. The reason for all the shiny finery, James Mischka revealed a few days before the show, was that he and design partner Mark Badgley (like a clutch of other designers this season) had been stargazing. Literally: They were poring over images captured by the Hubble telescope. "There's a galaxy feeling to our beading," Mischka remarked. Indeed, a short V-neck tank dress covered entirely with densely clustered gemstones had a river of citron running down the front and back like the Milky Way.

Marc by Marc Jobs

MARC JACOBS
What Reminds of the Empire

THE COLLECTION

Whoever does Marc Jacobs' research for him is a genius, with an ability to nail a mood that is pure gold. The new Marc by Marc Jacobs collection perfectly captured the moment when stylish boys and girls were picking up Iron Curtain army surplus after the Wall came down. The khaki melton coat with the red trim? The black fur hat? The big wool coat, patched and roughly belted as a dress? It was all spookily close to the source, which was kind of in keeping with the theme of Jacobs' signature show on Monday night: There's no place like home. In that case, "home" was a serene, almost dreamlike reminder of timelessness and enduring value. Here, it was a distillation of the thrift-shop spirit that has shaped the Marc by Marc collection from day one. Not just the surplus, but a strapless tartan prom dress (with petticoat) for the girls and washed-out black felt cargo pants with matching jacket for the boys.

THE COLLECTION

FALL 2010. NY

The drawing rooms of the Upper East Side that inspired Herrera's Spring show have been replaced by the wide-open spaces of the countryside. But don't think the designer has skimped on the luxury or the embellishments. Trading in painterly florals for a bird print embroidered with marabou feathers, and polka dots for windowpane plaids, she focused primarily on separates: dramatic capes over matching jackets and long, slim pants; cashmere vests layered over printed chiffon blouses and riding pants. A robust tweed overlaid with multicolored organza turned up on a double-breasted vest and a long coat with an exuberantly patterned lining. And there were riding jackets, as her program notes explained, "to grab from the mudroom, over a crinkle chiffon gown for an elegant dinner on the farm." Driving home the rustic-chic message were slouchy, high-heel riding boots and tartan fedoras decked with extravagantly long feathers that bobbed in the runway breeze.

Last News! Napa Bags in Loewe

Loewe is Madrid's answer to Chanel, this luxury line of bags is their pride and joy and when you put your hands on one, the buttery soft baby like leather will have you swooning. And what can be more luxurious than an exclusive made to order bag? Their newest Nappa Aire totes are available by special custom order and come in 3 sizes and 7 colors with palettes of lips, eyes and complexion. I love how light the bags are, the nappa is the finest Pyranees goat skin and is the feather weight of all leathers, so go for the large version of this bag if you require the roominess. I am in love with the smaller tote in apple, it is absolutely the most adorable bag for Spring.

JASON WU

"The First Lady´s Desinger"

Wu launched his ready-to-wear line of clothes with earnings from his years of doll designs. His first full collection debuted in 2006 and won the Fashion Group International's Rising Star award in 2008.In 2008 he was nominated for the Vogue Fashion Fund award. Bruce Weber shot the designer for W magazine's "Summer Camp" portfolio last July.

Wu's early clients included Ivana Trump, January Jones, and Amber Valletta. He also worked extensively with drag queen RuPaul, ultimately designing six RuPaul dolls.

Michelle Obama was introduced to Wu by André Leon Talley, Vogue Magazine's editor-at-large, who had been advising the future First Family on their appearance. She bought four dresses from Wu early in the year, wearing one of them for a segment on Barbara Walters Special shortly before the November 2008 election, prompting many in the media to consider her his "career-launcher". She wore another, a custom-designed one-shoulder, floor-length white chiffon gown, at the inaugural balls on the night of President Barack Obama's inauguration. Appearing on the cover of Vogue, Obama once again wore a Wu design, a magenta silk dress. Upon her arrival in London during the First Lady and President Barack Obama's first official European trip, Obama wore a chartreuse silk sheath dress designed by Wu; the next day she wore a Wu coat during her visit with the Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom On April 2, Obama paired a "traditional looking" teal Wu dress with a blue-patterned cardigan designed by Junya Watanabe to her visit to the Royal Opera House.

FALL 2010. NY Fashion Week.

With their electric colors and abbreviated hemlines, the Spring clothes that Jason Wu showed last September sent a clear message: Grateful as he was for the attention he received after Michelle Obama wore his gown on inauguration night, he didn't want to become recognized for just one kind of look. Now, for Fall, he seems determined to move even further from the princess dresses that were his first claim to fame.
