They called it "a mermaid silhouette" when he first Adrian - designer of choice for Hollywood studios in the Gilded Age gave a white silk dress that marked the curve and female body shapes. He was dressed star of the decade, both stars of the likes of Greta Garbo and Bette Davis to ordinary women.

Fue el vestido estrella de la década, tanto para estrellas de la talla de Greta Garbo o Bette Davis hasta mujeres corrientes}.

Cavalli made a tribute to the mermaid dress this season, and to the past memmory that -obviously- was better.

Marchesa's magenta silk and wool-blend boned asymmetric dress is simply exquisite. With a flattering structured cut and rosette detailing, this feminine style needs little embellishment to steal the show at your next big event. Shown here with Christian Louboutin shoes and bag and a Kenneth Jay Lane ring.

The Best - for me - of the Cruises Collections. Now!

The collections known as "cruise" were created in the late fifties with the purpose of giving the American lady of that time was an enough "chic" wardrobe for winter holiday in Florida, Mexican Caribbean and other sunny places. Obviously, this collection is inspired by a higher class than normal: a young lady who can afford spending Christmas water-skiing on the beaches of Santa Monica.

The Old Lace Dress

The lace has always been one of the most used textiles - were fashionable or not- it has solved countless designs from the Middle Ages to today, and most surprising of all, is that still maintains the value of the past, adapting - that yes- to all pockets. It is not necessary that the lace of a party dress is handmade in India, would be ridiculous if you only buy that, but do not forget, my dear ladies, that the value it brings is not at all something you should ignore or disregard.

The Best of CRUISE COLLETIONS Next Week!

The Princess Scarf by Gucci: The Flora.

(Princess Grace wearing the Flora Scarf in 1959)

As lovers of Hermès scarves and Ossie Clark/Celia Birtwell vintage dresses know, patterns can have as significant a history in fashion as the garments themselves. One of my favorite pattern stories is that of Flora, Gucci's now-emblematic array of delicate garden blooms scattered across a white (or less commonly, black) ground.

How it came about: as the story goes (many thanks to the delightful scarf-specialty blog Musings on things That Matter to Me), decades back Grace Kelly rushed into a Gucci shop in search of a floral scarf as a wedding present for a friend. The house did not make any at the time. Rodolfo Gucci went on to commission renowned illustrator Vittorio Accornero to design a sublime botanical in honor of Grace, who had then become Princess of Monaco.

With 37 different colors and a garden's worth of delicately rendered blooms, the scarf became an enduring favorite. When Frida Giannini became Gucci's head designer in 2002, she revived the pattern on bags, shoes, and dresses.

The Golden Globes Photo Retrospective 2010

Although I´m not very fan of Penelope Cruz, one day I´ll tell about my idea of her, she was really stunning yesterday. My favourite? Calista Flockhart.

Take a look, curious ladies!
